The process of creation is
an art form in and of itself.
Lesson Plan Samples
Teacher Plan
This lesson covers the basics of shading and drawing with different mediums for my introductory high school art class. I usually include a video—like this one—to go along with our in-class work. We watch it together in class, and then I share it so students can look back at it anytime. It’s super helpful for keeping absent students in the loop too! introduces basic shading and drawing techniques using a variety of mediums to an Introductory level high school art class.
Student View
This lesson is a simplified version of the plan provided to students through Schoology, our online learning management system, or printed for those who need physical copies. It serves as a guide, helping students review instructions, track due dates, and understand the intended learning goals. Previously, rubrics were attached to printed documents like the one above, but now I embed them directly into each digital project via Schoology.
Check for Learning
In addition to using process- and project-based rubrics to assess growth, I require students to maintain a sketchbook, as shown above. This allows me to evaluate their understanding through the quality of their notes and drawings while tracking progress by comparing earlier sketches to more recent ones.
Below is an example of a drawing student’s progress, showcasing their work in gathering reference points, developing sketches, brainstorming ideas, and preparing for their final artwork.
